random fact 24

Today is the 113th celebration of Philippine Independence. However, it's not really the case as the declaration on June 12, 1898 was the declaration of independence from Spain. In addition, no other foreign representative, except from an American was present in the declaration.

In 1962, then President Diosdado Macapagal signed an executive order which moved the date of independence from 1946 to 1898 which still holds up to this date.

The result of General Douglas MacArthur's landing at Palo, Leyte in 1944 was the independence of the Philippines dated July 4, 1946. This is the date in which the country is free from any invading forces.

So given that case, we will just be celebrating the 65th celebration of Philippine Independence on July 4, 2011.

On June 12, 1898, the anthem played in the declaration of Philippine Independence was entitled "Marcha Nacional Filipina," then played by the San Francisco de Malabon band. At that time there was no accompanying words to the anthem. Contrary to popular belief, the Act of Declaration of Philippine Independence (Acta de la proclamacion de independencia del pueblo Filipino) was read from a window in General Aguinaldo's house, not in a balcony which was just added later to the house facade.
